Happy 2012 !
from Rob, Wayne, Chris & Jim

CD #5 is started.  With the success of our concert series in December, we decided it was time to record the FSR Christmas material for posterity.   In late January, Wayne and Jim made a trip north of Indianapolis to meet with some wonderful musicians from Nashville.  We needed to produce several backgrounds for this recording.  As you may know, sometimes you can use recorded backgrounds to perform with, but not to use in a recording.  We were fortunate to get the services of some of Nashville's best studio musicians for this project.  Gary Prim on piano and organ, Duncan Mullins on bass, John Hammond on drums, and John Willis on guitars.  Wow.  Interestingly, since FSR primarily sings Gaither Vocal Band arrangements, many of these musicians had played on the original GVB arrangements of the songs on this FSR Christmas CD.  Pretty cool, huh?  All of Gaither's engineers (Jeff Aebi, Chad Evans, and Daniel Howell) worked on this recording.   On Jan. 26 & 27, Rob-Chris-Wayne-Jim returned to lay down the vocal tracks.   Producer Woody Wright again kept us in stitches with funny jokes and stories during the labor-intensive process of recording.  Woody and his lovely wife Vonnie took us out to dinner at a lovely Mediterranean restaurant and we all ate things we couldn't pronounce - yummy.   This Christmas CD includes 11 songs including "New Star Shining", "The Christmas Song", "I'll Be Home For Christmas", "White Christmas", "Come & See What's Happenin' At The Barn", "Away In A Manger", "A Time For Joy", "Fear Not" and more.   The next step in the process is the vocal tuning and cleaning the tracks, and then the mastering.  Again on this trip, Bill Gaither himself visited with us in the studio for a while.  He knows all the musicians from Nashville and joked around with them too.  Thanks to Daniel Howell for even putting a couple Christmas trees with lights in the studio to keep us in the mood.  We now have plenty of time to perfect the recording, get photos done, etc. for its release next Christmas.
